1       Introductions, apologies, substitutions and declarations of interest

1.1 The Chair welcomed Members to the meeting.

1.2 Apologies were received from Jayne Bryant AM and Julie Morgan AM.

 

2       Inquiry into loneliness and isolation - evidence session 1 - Professor Vanessa Burholt and Dr Deborah Morgan

2.1 The Committee received evidence from Professor Vanessa Burholt and Dr Deborah Morgan.

 

 Inquiry into loneliness and isolation - evidence session 2 - Older People's Commissioner for Wales

3.1 The Committee received evidence from the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales.

3.2 The Commissioner agreed to write to the Committee with her views on what should be included in the Welsh Government’s proposed strategy to address loneliness and isolation.

 

4       Inquiry into loneliness and isolation - evidence session 3 - Age Cymru

4.1 The Committee received evidence from representatives of Age Cymru.

 

5       Inquiry into loneliness and isolation - evidence session 4 - Samaritans and Campaign to End Loneliness

5.1 The Committee received evidence from representatives of Samaritans and the Campaign to End Loneliness.

5.2 Samaritans agreed to provide further information on a recent survey by the Royal Society for Public Health on the impact of social media on young people’s mental wellbeing. They also agreed to provide further information on the cost of suicide, in both financial and emotional terms.

 

6       Motion under Standing Order 17.42 to resolve to exclude the public from the remainder of the meeting

6.1 The Committee agreed the motion.

 

7       Inquiry into loneliness and isolation - consideration of evidence

7.1 The Committee discussed the evidence given during items 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the meeting.

 

8       Inquiry into medical recruitment - consideration of draft report

8.1 The Committee considered a first draft of the report of its inquiry into medical recruitment.
